The Tuesday Sermon Prep Pack — Weekly Email Template

What this is: the production template for the Tuesday Sermon Prep Pack — a weekly email for pastors, keyed to next Sunday's lectionary text (strategy.md §6: "the email is useful the very week it arrives"). Sections come from the agent-brief "Email List Strategy" list. One email = one text = next Sunday.

Cadence: every Tuesday, 10:00 AM ET. The email serves the Sunday five days later. Voice: Pastor John at the desk — peer to peer, plain, warm, theologically careful. HEAR throughout: honest about what the text does and doesn't say; empathetic to the working preacher's week; accurate (never fabricate historical or textual facts; label imaginative retellings); redirect to the pastor's own prayer, study, and discernment — the email helps prep, it never writes the sermon.

Banned: "AI writes your sermon," "sermon generator," hype superlatives, guilt-trip CTAs, "luck"/"lucky" language, unlabeled imaginative detail presented as fact.

Subject line​

Pattern: [Passage] this Sunday — {one concrete hook from the text} Example: Matthew 13 this Sunday — the math your people will miss Keep under ~55 characters. The hook is a detail, never a promise of ease.

Preheader​

One sentence: what Sunday this serves + the big idea, e.g. "Prep for Proper 10A: the kingdom comes by God's extravagant sowing."

Body sections (every week, same order)​

Greeting (1–2 lines)​

"Pastor John here, from the prep desk." Name the Sunday and the text. No throat-clearing.

1. Text snapshot​

The passage in 4–6 sentences — what actually happens, where it sits in the book and (if relevant) the lectionary season. Plain narration, no commentary-speak.

2. Sermon tension​

The honest difficulty of preaching this text: the common flattening move, the trap, or the pastoral landmine. One short paragraph. This is the "trouble" the rest of the email answers.

3. Three faithful angles​

Three distinct, labeled ways into the sermon (use the episode's LensLines or equivalent: classic / pastoral / edgy, or three method-flavored angles). Each: one strong line + 1–2 sentences of why it works. Close with: "If one of those unlocks the sermon for you, take it. It's yours now."

4. Show, Don't Tell​

The cinematic retelling of the key scene, as a blockquote. ALWAYS prefaced or followed by the label: "An imaginative retelling — a preaching move, not exegesis. Hold it loosely."

5. Everything Points to Jesus​

Walk — don't jump — the path from this text to Christ. Cite the actual canonical road (echoes, quotations, Jesus' own use of the image). Standing line allowed: "Don't jump to Jesus. Walk there — the text gives you a road."

6. Illustration seed​

One concrete, develop-it-yourself illustration starter drawn from the text's own world (a detail, a number, an image). A seed, not a finished story — the pastor grows it for their people.

7. Application questions​

Three to five questions the preacher can put to the congregation (or to themselves in the study). Application flows from grace, not burden — invitation, never audit.

8. Pastoral sensitivity note​

One short paragraph: who in the pews hears this text differently (the grieving, the doubting, the burned-out, the abused — whatever this text touches), and one adjustment that protects them.
